Symphony Extends Contract with Wage Boost
Members of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra Players Organization ratified a 3-season extension to their contract on June 19, 2014. The extension begins with the 2015-16 season and expires at the end of the 2017-18 season.
The extension adds wage increases of 3.1%, 3.1% and 3.6% in each of the 3 seasons, with the annual base salary rising to $93,900 in the final season. Season length remains at 45 weeks plus a two week summer guarantee from Seattle Opera. Pension benefit increases by 6%. The orchestra has added 3 associate wind positions in flute, oboe and clarinet.
According to SSOPO negotiator Tim Hale, the goal for both parties at the table was to “keep the orchestra moving forward without the distraction of negotiations”. The negotiating process with management was completed in 5 hours.
The musicians were represented by Jeff Bergler, Zart Dombourian-Eby, David Gordon, Tim Hale, Valerie Muzzolini, Cecilia Poellein-Buss, and David Sabee.
