Seattle Symphony in Contract Negotiations
The Seattle Symphony is currently working without a contract as negotiations continue between the orchestra players and management.
Management has asked the orchestra for a pay cut. Timothy R. Hale, Chair of the Orchestra Committee, said of management’s proposal, "The issue is not necessarily a pay cut for the remainder of this season. It's the fact that those pay cuts continue for an additional four seasons, and that we don't get back to the wage we were supposed to earn in 2005 until 2014."
The Symphony players do however have in place a one year extension of their current contract with Seattle Opera, through August 31, 2010.
For details, see the players' website at ssopo.org.
